General Non Combustibility
The Australian Standard AS AS 3959:2018 Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas requires certain performances of building materials for various determined levels of Bushfire Attack Level (BAL).
This standard currently comprises six categories, namely BAL-LOW, BAL-12.5, BAL-19, BAL-29, BAL-40 and BAL-FZ.
For categories BAL-12.5 to BAL-40 all of UBIQ’s INEX>BOARDS meet the requirements for construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas for external walls in so much as all INEX>BOARDS are deemed non-combustible by the standard*.
This includes; INEX>EXPRESS, INEX>RENDERBOARD, and INEX>WEATHERBOARD.
There is no such requirement for BAL-LOW.
This downloadable report prepared by CSIRO confirms that INEX>BOARDS have been tested for Combustibility under Australian Standard AS 1530.1 Part 1: Combustibility test for materials and that;
INEX>BOARDS are deemed ‘Non-combustible’.
This is the standard of non-combustibility that is required by the Australian Standard AS 3959:2018 Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas – clause 1.5.23 Non-Combustible.
Building Specifiers are free to download this report for submission to Building Certifiers if/as necessary.
* It is noted that there is a requirement for a minimum thickness of approved non-combustible external wall materials depending on the BAL-Level, which is as follows:-
BAL-12.5 to BAL-29: Minimum 6mm thick
BAL-40: Minimum 9mm thick
